One of our intentions at Huckleberry Homestead is to strive toward reusing, repurposing, and maximizing the use of what we already have. At our Forge, special care is taken to source, clean, and repurpose various metals into a new knife, tool, or artwork. Breathing new life into an old, rusty piece of steel rather than recycling it or throwing it away is one way that we can practice sustainability through our forge.

Everyday Carry Knives

As a homestead, we focus on energy on creating, growing, and nurturing that which we use ourselves. On our farm, we are always using “everyday carry” knives to cut wire, rope, and other materials as we go about our daily chores. Our forge is the birthplace of customized, hand-forged knives intended to be carried and used daily for heavy usage.

Below are photographs of our artisan-crafted belt-carried knives that were custom-made. Customers have presented deer antlers that they wanted to function as a knife handle, an old favorite saw blade that belonged to a close family member who passed away, and other special items that could be repurposed into a newly forged blade.

Kitchen Knives

As homesteaders, the kitchen is the hub of our cabin. There is always something from our gardens needing to be chopped, diced, sliced, or julienned! We regularly use a variety of kitchen knives that have been forged for particular kitchen prep jobs. Here is a chart explaining some of the kinds of kitchen knives that we offer with their parameters. Contact us for a customized set of kitchen knives, or a forge-welded individual knife!

Metal Art and Specialty Work

We use a lot of tools, bits, and parts around our small farm. Often, we end up with odds and ends, spare bolts, hinges, wires, and screws that are perfectly usable but not needed for the foreseeable future. Rather than endlessly store these random parts, we began making custom metalwork art to capture moments in time with repurposed and upcycled metals.

Below is a sample of some of the hand-welded, artisan creations spawned in our forge. While some items are decorative, we do also craft specialty swords and daggers. Regardless, each item was created with a particular aspect of the recipient of the metallurgic artwork in mind. Check out some of our steel artwork on display at our farmers market table, or contact us to create a customized welded piece of art for your loved one!
